Quincy Notre Dame found itself in for a challenge Tuesday night.
The Lady Raiders, ranked No. 6 in this week's Illinois Class 3A girls basketball rankings, trailed Springfield by seven points midway through the third quarter on the road.
All QND had to do was go to Karlee Gengenbacher.
The sophomore forward scored the next eight points of the game to give the Lady Raiders a one-point lead. That was all QND needed to pull away for a 64-56 victory and stay undefeated.
Gengenbacher finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Renita Bunte led the Lady Raiders (17-0) with 16 points and five assists. Chloe Barnes finished with 15 points and five assists.
QND returns to the road Thursday night when it plays a makeup game at Pana, the top-ranked team in Class 2A at 20-2.
