Whalin belts pair of homers to help Trail Blazers split

QUINCY -- The John Wood Community College men's basketball team split a MidWest Athletic Conference doubleheader with Lincoln for the second consecutive day, losing the opener 11-4 but winning the second game 13-5.

Evan Day went the distance for the Trail Blazers in the second game, surrendering five runs on four hits. He didn't walk a hitter, but he did hit four batters, while fanning eight.

The Trail Blazers hit three home runs in the game -- two by Zak Whalin and one by Kaleb Bradshaw. Whalin's first homer led off the third inning, and he belted a grand slam in the fifth. Bradshaw's homer was a solo blast to lead off the sixth.

Joshua Corredor added three hits, a walk and two RBIs.

JWCC starter Trevor Nierman was roughed up for nine runs before leaving the first game in the third inning. Jose Hernandez hit a solo home run, the first of his career, and Masen Melton added an RBI double for the Trail Blazers (8-5, 2-2 MWAC).
