SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Quincy Notre Dame girls soccer Mark Longo quickly pinpointed one stat that tells him the Lady Raiders are playing well.
It was the seven corner kicks they earned in Thursday night's 2-0 victory over Rochester.
"That means we're attacking the goal and getting crosses," Longo said after QND improved to 11-0-1 following its victory in the opening round of the Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin Tournament. "We were creating chances to score."
One of the chances came in the the 13th minute when McKenzie Foley hammered home a header off a cross from Olivia Dreyer for a 1-0 lead.
"It was a nice goal," Longo said.
Dreyer made it 2-0 in the 67th minute when she scored on a penalty kick.
QND outshot Rochester 8-2, gave up only one corner kick and recorded its eighth shutout overall and fourth in a row.
The Lady Raiders finish tournament play Saturday by facing St. Joseph's Academy at 9:30 a.m. and United Township at 2:30 p.m.
