PALMYRA, Mo. -- A 19-year-old New London man was arrested Sunday afternoon after a search following a pursuit Saturday near Philadelphia.
The Missouri State Highway patrol said Jaron W. Richards was arrested on Marion and Ralls counties warrants on a charge of resisting arrest and a probation warrant on a charge of resisting arrest.
State troopers responded to the report of suspicious activity around 1 p.m. Saturday near Philadelphia. Three men appeared to be lost and were acting strangely, police said. A description of the car was provided, and when the trooper saw the vehicle on Mo. 168, the vehicle fled after the trooper attempted to stop it.
Police said the occupants abandoned the vehicle near Woodland and a search of the area was unsuccessful.
During a subsequent investigation, police identified Richards. While Richards was reportedly spotted in the public twice on Sunday, he was not apprehended.
Police said information was posted on social media, as well as area media outlets were contacted with information on Richards.
Police made an arrest after a resident was working in a garage and recognized Richards based on the media alert. He reportedly drew Richards into conversation as another person contacted law enforcement.
Richards is being held in the Marion County Jail.
Assisting were the Marion County Sheriff's Department, the Ralls County Sheriff's Department and the Palmyra Police Department.
