Brandon Smith, agriscience teacher at Payson CUSD 1, successfully completed the 15th annual DuPont National Agriscience Teachers Ambassador Academy in Phoenix. Upon completing the program, Smith became an Agriscience Teacher Ambassador, joining 369 agriscience teachers from across the country who have earned that designation. The National Agriscience Teacher Ambassador Academy is a professional development institute sponsored by DuPont.
David Liesen of Quincy was installed as president of the Illinois State Association at the 72nd Illinois Masonic High Twelve Annual Meeting on Aug. 12 at Quality Inn & Suites. Liesen a past master of Herman Lodge AFAM, Quincy, and he will serve for one year. Other state elected officers and appointed officers were also installed, including Jay Sade of Quincy as chaplain and Dean Lillis of Quincy as sergeant at arms. High Twelve is an international association dedicated to the unification of master Masons.
Zach Bemis, a Quincy Police Department officer, has been named August Employee of the Month. He joined the department in 2015. In addition to his patrol duties, Bemis is a member of the Crisis Intervention Team. He received the Quincy Police Department Patrol Officer of the Year Award for 2016. He also was April Employee of the Month. Bemis has a bachelor's degree in business from Western Illinois University and is a graduate of the Police Training Institute.
