Monroe City no match for defending champions

MONROE CITY, Mo. -- The Monroe City softball team fell to defending state champion Centralia 10-2 in a Clarence Cannon Conference matchup on Monday night.

Centralia scored first in the top of the first inning, but Monroe City's McKenzie West scored on Skyler Kauble's RBI double. Pitcher Gwendolyn Bostick then shut out Monroe City for the next four innings as Centralia built a 5-1 lead.

Bailee Hays drove in Lauren Youngblood with a single in the sixth to close the gap to 5-2, but Centralia closed out the game with a five-run seventh inning.
