CANTON, Mo. -- The Culver-Stockton College men's soccer team brought its three-game winless skid to an abrupt and needed end.

Lucas Berte scored in the seventh minute, Mackenzie Northern added a goal eight minutes into the second half and the Wildcats posted a 2-0 victory over Avila in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at NX Level Field.

Scoreless despite C-SC's constant pressure the first six minutes, the Wildcats' Matteo Ghezzi sent a cross from the left side into the penalty area where Berte won the ball in the air and drove a header past Eagles goalkeeper Patrick Elliott.

In the 54th minute, Pierce Robinson played a long ball ahead to Berte along the goal line. He played the ball back to Northern, who beat Elliott for the 2-0 lead. It was Northern's seventh goal this season and 28th of a his career, leaving him one away from tying for second in C-SC history.

C-SC keeper Nicholas Luciani didn't have to make a save as Avila had just five shots. The Wildcats (5-5-3, 3-4 Heart) outshot the Eagles 23-5.
