Clayton qualifies for Class 2A state tournament

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Quincy High School's Olivia Clayton qualified for the Class 2A state tournament by winning two matches Friday at the sectional tournament in Edwardsville.

Clayton will play Chloe McIsaac of Belleville East in the sectional semifinals Saturday morning. Clayton began the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Amy Burgess of Collinsville, then routed Edwardsville's Anne McGinnis 6-2, 6-0 to reach the semifinals. Both McIsaac and Clayton qualify for state by reaching the sectional semifinals.

McIssac is seeded second and has a record of 30-3. Clayton is now 24-6.

Quincy High School's Isabella Trinh advanced out of the first round by defeating Riley Wills of Belleville West 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Trinh then fell to Jennaka Cain of Collinsville 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, the QHS tandem of Natala Fasano and Callie Nicholas won their first-round match against Lindsey Taylor and Allison Moore of Collinsville, 6-1, 6-0, then fell in the second round to Abby Fischer and Hannah Macias of Alton, 6-3, 6-1.

QHS' Sami Santos and Chaney Wollaston lost in the first round to Emma Bolinger and Rachel Shelly of Springfield, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
