Maples, Griesbaum still alive in consolation bracket

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Palmyra's Kendra Maples and Emmy Griesbaum won two of three matches Friday at the Class 1 state tennis tournament.

The duo beat Hannah Cypert and Hunter Keithley of Chilicothe 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. Maples and Griesbaum lost in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-3 to Lynne Li and Jaqueline Kincaid of Pembroke Hill to fall to the consolation bracket.

Maples and Griesbaum bounced back and won their first match in the consolation bracket 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 against Anna Williams and Kayton Harris of Kennett.

The Palmyra duo will play Saturday morning against Sophia McLellen and Ashley Hagan of Visitation Academy and will compete for a fifth-place finish.
