Hawks squander solid start, lose home finale

QUINCY -- Any momentum from a strong start by the Quincy University women's volleyball team slowly frittered away as the Hawks suffered a four-set loss in their final home match.

Illinois-Springfield rallied for a 20-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 victory in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Tuesday night at Pepsi Arena.

The Hawks won nine of the final 11 points in the first set, but they had 11 attack errors and only nine kills in the second set. Quincy fell behind 10-3 in the third set and never recovered. The fourth set was tied at 16 before the Prairie Stars closed out the match by winning six of the last seven points.

Bekah Raebel led Quincy (7-18, 4-10 GLVC) with 16 kills, while Bobby Eastman had 11 kills. Sara Rathbun finished with 20 assists and 10 digs, while Marissa Gonzalez had 20 digs.
