Rauner only one in Springfield supporting us

To The Herald-Whig:

Illinois is a great state. It is powered by the hardest working men and women in the country and has a long history of innovation, excellence and prosperity. Our economic capabilities, coupled with the passion, drive and knowledge of every Illinoisan, should be a recipe for success. But even though Illinois truly is great, it has been run by the wrong people for too long. Instead of widespread prosperity, we are burdened by ridiculous income tax rates and uncontrollable property taxes, all while workers across the state struggle to find well-paying jobs.

Gov. Bruce Rauner went to Springfield as an outsider and saw an opportunity to undo damage. He wanted to reignite faith that our elected representatives would work in favor of our interests and not bow to political coalitions, lobbyists, or their own selfishness. Rauner knew the enormity of his task, and in the three years since his election he has not balked.

He has fought every step of the way to ensure that he can deliver for the people of Illinois. Rauner has taken the mantle of responsibility in Springfield, introduced common-sense legislation that puts power back in the hands of the people, and has fought against the spend-crazy Democrats that control the Legislature. He overhauled the EDGE tax credit program to create more jobs in Illinois, and he has fought every out-of-balance budget and outrageous tax hike. Rauner must continue the work he has begun in order to save Illinois and its people from the burden of bad government and the ill-intent of Springfield's career-politicians.

Rauner has proved himself to be a leader who will follow through on the promises he made to the people who elected him. And unlike generations of political leaders before him, he will not give up fighting for the people of Illinois.

The hardest fights are yet to come, but these are the ones that matter most: fighting to repeal the Madigan income tax hike, creating voter-controlled property tax rates and putting power firmly back in the hands of the people. Rauner wants to protect and empower Illinoisans who work, vote and raise their families in this great state by making it easier to be successful. It is crucial, now more than ever before, that we continue to support Rauner because when it comes down to it, he is the only one in Springfield supporting us.
