Scouting the Hornets: Westran is coming off a stunning upset after beating second-ranked Marceline 42-16 in the district championship game last weekend. Westran had lost its previous matchup with its LCC rival 25-22 on Oct. 6. Now the Hornets get a shot at the top-ranked team in Class 1. Westran's offense revolves around junior quarterback Alex Young, who has thrown for 1,565 yards and rushed for a team-high 1,179 yards. He's responsible for 43 of Westran's 55 touchdowns this season as he's thrown for 23 and rushed for 20 more. His favorite wide receiver is Chris Evans, who has 849 yards on 52 catches and 19 touchdowns. The Hornets allow just 15.2 points per game this season.
Scouting the Panthers: Monroe City's offense continues to score at will this postseason with its third straight game of scoring 50 or more points in the 56-26 victory over South Shelby in the district final. The Panthers are averaging 56.7 points in postseason play, and are allowing just 12.7 points. Monroe City showed its ability to share the wealth as five different players scored touchdowns in the district championship game. Zach Osborn is the team's leading rusher with 1,308 yards and 18 touchdowns. Fullback Cole Pennewell has rushed 1,109 yards and 18 touchdowns, but had just four carries against South Shelby because he's battling an illness. In his spot, sophomore Keenan Batsell ran for 122 yards on 15 carries and had a 56-yard touchdown run.
