INDIANAPOLIS -- One Quincy University football player and one Quincy High School graduate were named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference first team Wednesday.
Junior linebacker Cody Leonard was the Hawks' only first-team selection. The 5-foot-11, 192-pound Leonard led Quincy with 110 total tackles, including a GLVC-best 72 solo tackles. He led the team with 14.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.
He also forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and broke up two passes.
Truman State junior running back Malique Robbins, a QHS graduate, was a first-team pick as a kick returner. The 5-8, 183-pound Robbins led the GLVC averaging 26.5 yards per return with a long of 65 yards. He finished the season with 182 yards rushing and one touchdown and seven receptions for 86 yards and one score.
The Hawks had five second-team selections -- senior tight end Owen Schoenenberger, sophomore offensive lineman Justin Rosendahl, senior cornerback Adehkeem Brown, junior defensive end T.J. Daniels and sophomore punter Nathan Kewney.
Schoenenberger caught 24 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns while battling a hip injury all season. Brown intercepted three passes, broke up four others and blocked two kicks. Daniels had 12.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception.
Kewney punted 63 times, averaging 40.7 yards with a long of 72 yards, 14 punts of more than 50 yards and 12 downed inside the 20-yard line.
Third-team selections included senior wide receiver Kody Wood, senior offensive lineman Jared Carlton, junior offensive lineman Devon Hickman and senior linebacker Nate Rueckemann.
QHS product Jordan Osborne, a senior defensive back at McKendree, was a third-team selection.
Rueckemann also was named Quincy's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award nominee.
