QUINCY -- Auditions are around the bend for Quincy Community Theatre's student musical, "Anne Of Green Gables." Appointments are available for students grades 6 to 12, on Dec. 4 and 5. All are welcome to audition regardless of experience.
Home is a place Anne Shirley has always dreamt of finding. Even though she isn't the boy her new family is expecting, Anne's vibrant spirit, imaginative nature and unexpected adventures win the hearts of the Cuthberts, Gilbert Blythe and the citizens of Avonlea. Based on the novel by L.M. Montgomery with music by Nancy Ford and book and lyrics by Gretchen Cryer, "Anne Of Green Gables" is a musical story of love and belonging for all ages.
"When this musical was selected for our 2018 season, I didn't fully realize just how beloved this story is," said Director of Student Theater Kelsey Celek. "So many people -- of all ages and backgrounds -- have approached me to tell me about their personal connection to this story and these characters. At the surface level, ĎAnne Of Green Gables' feels like an incredibly specific story, but its deeper questions about making a family and a community are universal."
Roles include Anne Shirley, the spirited orphan who brings Avonlea to life; Gilbert Blythe, a strong-willed young man who becomes Anne's rival; Diana Barry, Anne's sweet and caring best friend; Matthew Cuthbert, Marilla's warm-hearted brother who finds a kindred spirit in Anne; Marilla Cuthbert, an older woman whose stern exterior is melted by Anne's spirit; and more.
Those auditioning will be asked to prepare a minute of a song of their choice. A piano accompanist will be available, so those performing a song not from the Ford and Cryer musical "Anne Of Green Gables" are asked to bring sheet music.
Those auditioning will also be asked to read from the script, currently available on the QCT website. To access the script, please call QCT for the password.
Rehearsals will work with most schedules, as performers may not be called for every rehearsal or for the full length of rehearsal. A detailed schedule will be determined based on actor availability.
"Anne Of Green Gables" is under the direction of Celek with vocal direction by Paige Mueller, scenic design by Lorne Kelley, costume design by Connie Phillips, properties design by Katie Kraushaar and stage management by Jeri Conboy.
