MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois football team has earned its 11th trip in school history to the FCS Playoffs.
The NCAA FCS Playoffs selection committee announced on Sunday that the Leathernecks will play at Weber State at 3 p.m. Saturday in Ogden, Utah.
Western Illinois' postseason appearance is its second in the last three seasons, the program's best run of success since going to three playoffs in four seasons from 2000-03.
During their last trip to the FCS Playoffs in 2015, the Leathernecks knocked off Dayton 24-7 on the road before succumbing at Illinois State 36-19 in the second round.
Weber State finished 9-2 this season, and the Wildcats' 7-1 record in the Big Sky Conference tied them with Southern Utah for the league title. Should Western Illinois beat Weber State, the Leathernecks would advance to take on eighth-seeded Southern Utah on Dec. 2 in Cedar City, Utah.
Western Illinois, which set a school-record with six road wins this season, is one of five schools from the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the FCS Playoffs field of 24.
