QUINCY -- The Art Center invites all to come and celebrate the 87th Beaux Arts Ball with friends and family. This Quincy tradition continues 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21. The Oakley-Lindsay Center will once again host the Ball, and music will be provided by Mobile Entertainer. The reigning queen, Erica Elyse Ernst, daughter of John and Debbie Ernst, will crown the new queen during the coronation ceremony at 8 p.m. Ben Van Ness will serve as master of ceremonies.

Major sponsors for the ball are Friends of the Art Center, Gardner Denver, Kohl Wholesale, Quincy Medical Group, Quincy Recycle, Refreshment Services Pepsi and Sturhahn Jewelers.

Additional sponsors include 8th Avenue, Architechnics Inc., Freiburg Insurance Agency, Kennedy Wealth Group, Oxi Fresh, Schuecking's Men Wear, Specs, Wellman Florist, The Herald Whig and WGEM-TV.

The Beaux Arts Ball has been held annual in Quincy since 1930. It was sponsored by the Quincy Art Club and held at the Lincoln-Douglas Hotel. Since 1940, the Queen candidates have helped to sell tickets to the Ball. Over the years the people and places have changed numerous times, but the main focus of the Beaux Arts Ball has always been to support the visual arts in the community through the Quincy Art Center.

For the ninth year, the Beaux Arts Ball Commission will recognize not only the fundraising abilities of the queen candidates but their volunteer efforts as well. The Beaux Arts Ball Young Woman of Achievement Award will be presented during the Beaux Arts Ball Coronation and will be awarded to a young woman who has taken the additional initiative to volunteer at the Quincy Art Center.

Tickets are $20 in advance and may be purchased from any queen candidate or at the Quincy Art Center, 1515 Jersey St. Tickets will be $25 at the door on the night of the event. Students younger than 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Student IDs will be required.

Tables of eight may be reserved for $75 by contacting any Queen candidate. Open seating is available, but tables must be reserved. Reserved tables do not include admission to the ball. Food trays may be purchased in advance for $25 from any Queen candidate. Table and food reservations must be made on or before Friday, Dec. 15.
