PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- The Hardee's restaurant in Pittsfield closed without much notice Tuesday.

Bill McCartney, Pittsfield economic development director, said the city was unaware that the owner of the restaurant planned to close.

"I just drove by and saw them packing up," McCartney said. "We don't know the reason why they closed up."

McCartney said he hopes to see another restaurant fill the now vacant building at 946 W. Washington St.

Richard Smith, managing broker and owner of Pike County Real Estate, said he has spoken with the building owner, but the owner has not yet made a decision on the future of the building. The Hardee's business and the building were owned by two different people.

"Naturally, we're disappointed to lose a business with employees," Pittsfield Mayor John Hayden said.

Buzzfile.com reports that the business employed about 15 people.
