Last-second 3-pointer doesn't fall for Trojans

HANNIBAL, Mo. -- The Hannibal-LaGrange University men's basketball team had the ball with 7.2 seconds remaining and a chance to tie or win, but a 3-pointer by Tim Pace didn't fall in a 78-76 loss to Missouri Valley on Monday.

Brady Smith had 16 points in the first half as the Trojans led 36-30. Missouri Valley scored the first eight points of the second half, and the lead went back and forth for most of the second half.

Two free throws by Smith got HLGU within 72-70 with 1:44 remaining. The Vikings pushed the lead back to 77-73 on a basket by Tim Washington with 49 seconds left. Smith converted a three-point play with 22 seconds to go to make the score 77-76, and Washington split two free throws with 12 seconds left.

Smith led all scorers with 23 points, followed by Pace with 17 and Tyron Hueitt Jr. with 16. Pace also had three blocks, eight rebounds and nine assists.
