QUINCY -- Tri-State fans of Hardee's now have two fewer options in getting a fast-food fix.
The Hardee's restaurant at 12th and Jefferson in Quincy and the Hardee's at 4729 McMasters Ave. in Hannibal, Mo., abruptly closed Monday.
Equipment was being moved out of both buildings Monday.
That makes four area Hardee's being shuttered in less than a month. In mid-November, the Hardee's in Macomb closed, and last week, the one in Pittsfield shut down.
Capstone Restaurant Group based in Boulder, Colo., is the franchisee of all four restaurants that closed and other area Hardee's that remain open. Capstone Restaurant Group is the parent company of Lund Brown Enterprises, and LundBrown.com lists the local restaurants as its properties.
Calls to both Capstone Restaurant Group and Hardee's corporate office were unreturned. A woman coordinating the removal of the South 12th Street restaurant equipment and signs Monday told The Herald-Whig she had no comment regarding the closing.
Residents living near the Quincy Hardee's said they were surprised by its abrupt closure but weren't surprised overall that it did close.
"I found out last night that it closed, but based on the lack of business it appeared to have, I'm not surprised at all," Todd Forrest said.
Lorna Gilligan found out about the restaurant's closure Monday evening.
"I actually was going to get some Hardee's last night, but then I didn't. I'm extremely surprised to see that today it's closed," Gilligan said. "What's sad is that now it's an empty street corner there."
