Western-Payson finds momentum after first quarter

KINDERHOOK, Ill. -- The Western-Payson girls basketball team overcame a slow start Tuesday to defeat Carrollton 61-34.

Ava Uhles scored eight points to help the Hawks lead 15-8 after one quarter. Western-Payson (9-1) regained the lead at 25-24 by halftime, then dominated in the second half. Carrollton scored just 12 points in the second half, including only two in the final quarter.

Blair Borrowman scored 14 of her 22 points in the second half. Kamryn Flesner added 19 points for Western-Payson, while Riley Epperson recorded 13.

Uhles led Carrollton with 15 points.
