Inside the matchup: It's been a rough first year for Crimsons coach Cody Gray. Jacksonville has lost 11 straight games heading into Friday's matchup with Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin and has yet to beat a Class 3A or 4A school. The Crimsons' last victory was against Rockridge in the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament. Senior forward Will Peak is averaging 9.9 points and 3.6 rebounds, and he scored a season-high 23 points against Central in the Macomb-Western Holiday Tournament. Junior forward Zack Rose is averaging 8.2 and 4.1 rebounds per game. This is the first of three straight road games for the Blue Devils, who are 5-1 in road games this year but haven't played away from Blue Devil Gym since Jan. 19. In the first four games of a five-game homestand that ended with Friday night's game against Rock Island, the Blue Devils turned the ball over an average of just nine times. They also shot 71.7 percent from the free-throw line in that span, although they had double-digit attempts only twice.
