Blue Devils unable to get over hump

CHATHAM, Ill. -- A second half rally by the Quincy High School girls basketball team fell short on Monday as the sixth-seeded Blue Devils fell to 10-seeded Champaign Centennial 36-33 in the first round of the Class 4A Chatham Glenwood Regional.

QHS finishes its season with a 15-12 record.

The Blue Devils trailed 22-17 at halftime after the Chargers' Amia Wright made a three-quarter court heave at the buzzer, and Centennial (7-19) led by as many as as nine points during the third quarter.

Quincy trimmed the deficit to 28-26 heading into the final eight minutes.

The Blue Devils stayed within one possession of the Chargers for most of the fourth quarter, but the Blue Devils were never able to tie the score or take the lead.

Sarah Nelson led the Blue Devils with 13 points, while Stephanie Anders had nine.
