Some friends and I were discussing who the largest employer was in Adams County. I thought it was Blessing Hospital. Another thought it was Quincy Public Schools, and another thought it was the city of Quincy or perhaps Blue Cross Blue Shield. What are the top five employers in Adams County?

You were right about Blessing Hospital. It is the largest employer in Adams County.

A list of the largest employers is compiled by the Great River Economic Development Foundation.

Its list says Blessing Hospital has 3,088 employees. It is followed by Knapheide Manufacturing with 1,350 employees, Quincy Public Schools with 1,200 employees, Quincy Medical Group with 1,000 employees and Blue Cross Blue Shield with 910 employees. To be clear, these figures are local employment numbers.

Also, GREDF reports 298 employees with the city of Quincy, 360 with Adams County and 562 with John Wood Community College.
