HLGU starts season with six consecutive losses

LEESBURG, Fla. -- The Hannibal-LaGrange University softball team lost twice in the PFXA Spring Games on Monday. The Trojans were no-hit in an 8-0 loss against Bellevue, then fell to Trinity International 5-4.

The Trojans (0-6) were in a scoreless tie with the Bruins (8-3) after three innings before Bellevue scored eight runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Jordyn Alford took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Jenna Duckworth hit a solo home run in the first inning of the second game. Trinity International (3-3) took the lead in the second with three runs, but the Trojans got one back in the third.

Two more runs in the third put HLGU in a 5-2 hole before the Trojans got one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

In the seventh, Duckworth led off with a single before Alford hit into a double play. Two straight singles and a walk loaded the bases, but Allison Matlock grounded out to end the game.

Sydney Newell took the loss for HLGU after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks in two innings of work.
