DANVILLE, Ill. -- The Quincy Gems ended nearly two weeks of offensive frustration on Monday night by scoring 13 runs in the first two innings of a 13-8 victory over the Danville Dans in a Prospect League game at Danville Stadium.

The Gems had averaged just 3.7 runs per game in losing 11 of their last 12 games. The Gems hit just .212 during that span, but they collected 15 hits on Monday -- with 12 of them coming in the first two innings.

Bailey Montgomery and Riley Pittman started the game with singles, and Kyle Crowl singled to bring in Montgomery. After a wild pitch, Cody Klotz singled in both Crowl and Pittman.

After Aaron Campbell struck out and Max McGuire singled, Jimmy Huber hit a three-run home run to put Quincy ahead 6-0.

The Gems continued the offensive onslaught against Dans starter Stewart Currie in the second inning.

Crowl singled and Klotz doubled to start the frame. Campbell was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Crowl scored on Max McGuire's ground ball to Danville third baseman Matt Gammon.

Huber then followed with a two-run single. After Ryan Mantle flew out and Matthew Waznis popped out, Montgomery hit a three-run home run. Montgomery had hit one home run in his first 66 at-bats but has one in each of his last two games.

Pittman scored the final run of the inning when he walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Crowl.

Quincy was shut out on three hits over the final seven innings by two Danville relievers.

Huber finished with three hits and five RBIs. His batting average was .150 on June 28, but he's raised it 53 points in the past 11 days.

Crowl also had three hits. Klotz and Montgomery had two hits each.

Starter Tyson Banks allowed five runs and five hits in 51/3 innings to earn the victory.

The Gems (16 -21) are in fifth place in the West Division, 71/2 games out of first place but only 31/2 games behind Danville and Springfield for the division's second playoff spot.
