Adams County Elite wins U16 state chamnpionship

MOLINE, Ill. -- Taylor Frink's two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning propelled the Adams County Elite softball team to the Illinois ASA U16 Class B state championship Sunday with a 7-6 victory over the Lady Hitmen 03.

Adams County Elite advances to the Northern Regional in Rochester, Minn.

Adams County trailed 6-3 heading into the seventh when Sydney Carlisle got a rally started with a one-out single. Gracie McDowell followed with an RBI double to center field, and Krista Schrader had an RBI single to pull Adams County within 6-5.

Kennady Fleer lined out, leaving Schrader at second base, before Frink launched on 0-1 pitch to left field for the lead.

The Hitmen used two walks and a fielder's choice to load the bases with two outs against Adams County's Addison Miller, but a comebacker fielded cleanly by Miller led to the final out.

Miller pitched six innings total, throwing the first five innings and returning for the seventh. She She struck out five and walked four. The Lady Hitmen scored two runs against Alyssa Dour in the sixth inning.

McDowell went 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs.
