QUINCY -- The registration deadline is Aug. 24 for a Master Naturalist volunteer training program offered by University of Illinois Extension in Adams, Brown, Hancock, Pike and Schuyler counties.

Master Naturalist volunteers are adults who love the outdoors, have a concern for the local environment and want to provide education and service to help their communities.

Nine weekly training sessions will be offered at locations across West-Central Illinois beginning Aug. 29. Topics include climate and weather, forest trees of Illinois and agriculture and wildlife.

The $250 fee covers training, training materials and the Master Naturalist training manual. People completing the training are asked to return 60 hours of volunteer service with approved projects in their communities.

Applications and more information are available by contacting Extension horticulture educator Kari Houle at 217-357-2150 or khoule@illinois.edu and at web.extension.illinois.edu/abhps/mn/.
