HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Millie Stewart, 9, loves her dolls, and she has plenty of them. She's been wanting to do something nice for others for a while, but she didn't know what to do to help.
Her mom, Beverly Stewart, suggested Millie collect dolls for others, and Millie agreed. Through of August, the upcoming third-grader at St. John's Lutheran School is collecting new dolls at select Hannibal locations to give to Court Appointed Special Advocates at Douglass Community Services. She is being assisted by Marion County Family Services.
"She is pretty excited and wants to do this annually," Stewart said. "CASA said they could use the dolls for children, and whatever dolls are left over can be used by Douglass Community Services."
Millie is involved with the Miss America and Miss Hannibal programs, and Miss Audrain's Outstanding Teen Taylor Blackwell of Frankford has mentored Millie in setting up All Dolled Up.
So far, about 16 dolls have been collected. Millie hopes to collect 50.
"I wanted to do All Dolled Up because dolls help children learn caring and nurturing skills," Millie said.
"It's a great program she's doing," Stewart said, "and it suits her because of her love of dolls."
