KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The registration deadline is Friday for the Missouri Vegetable Growers Association state vegetable tour.
The tour, slated for Tuesday, Aug. 28, features stops in southwest Adair County.
Participants who want to carpool should meet at 10 a.m. at the Adair County Extension office in Kirksville. Those wanting to go straight to the first stop should meet at 10:30 a.m. at Green Valley Farm, 28461 Linderville Trail, Kirksville.
Green Valley is a family-owned and operated farm near the Chariton River featuring ethnic and heirloom vegetables, herbs and small fruits. They produce a wide variety of Oriental, Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, East European, Latin American and old-fashioned North American vegetables and sell them via local community-supported agriculture, at Kirksville farmers markets, to consumer-buying co-ops and to restaurants and grocery stores in the Kirksville area.
Boxed lunches will be served about 12:30 p.m. at the community center in Winigan.
After lunch, participants will tour Winigan Farms at 12823 Route CC, which features a grafted tomato planting, more than 800 mushroom logs, elderberry, garlic, other vegetables and heirloom turkeys.
