The Quincy University women's volleyball team continued its hot start, defeating Mississippi College 25-21, 25-19, 26-24 and the University of Texas-Permian Basin 25-17, 25-22, 25-22 on Saturday in Magnolia, Ark., to remain unbeaten after four matches.
Mississippi College put up a fight in the final set of the first match, but the Hawks scored the game-winning points on a kill by Taylor King. Taylor McMonagle led QU with 12 kills, King added four blocks. QU was led by Alaina Rothermich's eight kills and Sara Pate's 15 assists in the match against Texas-Permian Basin.
East Central College Falcon Classic: John Wood Community College lost to John A. Logan 25-17, 25-23, 25-17 and Mineral Area 25-7, 25-13, 25-9 to finish the tournament winless in four matches. Anna Peter had four kills and Carol Vincentine had three against John A. Logan. Kailey Owsley added 19 digs, and Kayla Mellon had 14 assists. Shayla Darnell had four kills for the Trail Blazers (0-5) and Haley Hickerson had three against Mineral Area. Owsley had 20 digs.
