QUINCY -- Five Quincy residents were arrested on charges of cannabis trafficking and unlawful possession with intent to deliver after two Sunday night traffic stops by the Quincy Police Department Street Crimes Unit.

Master Sgt. Patrick Frazier of the West Central Illinois Task Force reported that Deamontae L. Hill, 20; Maqualla M. Gholston, 26; Porter H. Peoples, 27; Ebony N. Werner, 28; and Rashad L. Snoddy, 26, all of Quincy, were arrested after the traffic stops and searches of the vehicles.

Seized during the searches of the vehicles was about 85 pounds of cannabis.

The arrests stem from a multi-state cannabis conspiracy investigation that began earlier in the summer involving individuals importing and distributing large amounts of cannabis in the Quincy area. Surveillance of the group was conducted as they obtained the cannabis and brought it across state lines.

The task force said the investigation is ongoing with additional arrests expected.
