Extra points: The Blue Devils and Redbirds have a long-standing rivalry, having played each other in 20 of the last 22 seasons. The Redbirds lead the series 12-8 and won 10 straight matchups from 1999-2008. The Blue Devils' longest winning streak is six straight from 2009-12 and 2015-16. Scheduling conflicts forced the two to suspend the series in 2013-14. Alton won last year's matchup 48-21, taking advantage of Quincy running back Jirehl Brock being sidelined with an injured shoulder. Brock briefly left last week's victory over North Lawndale because of a deep bruise in his left calf, but he is healthy and will play Friday night. The Redbirds opened their season with a 21-0 loss to Highland, which reached the Class 4A state semifinals last season. Alton quarterback Andrew Jones completed 15 of 28 passes for 136 yards against Highland and is coming off a junior season in which he threw for 647 yards and eight touchdowns. Tim Johnson led Alton with 53 yards rushing last week.
