Extra points: Quarterback Sam Mattecheck rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns, and junior running back Nate Sheets rushed for 146 yards in Alleman's 38-19 victory over Davenport Assumption in the first meeting between the Quad-Cities' two Catholic high schools since 1984. The Pioneers, ranked No. 6 in Class 3A, rushed for 411 yards against QND in last year's 29-13 victory in Quincy. Mattecheck had TD runs of 83 and 61 yards in that game. He has rushed for 10 touchdowns and 1,391 yards in the past two years, but he also has 26 passes broken up on defense. Alleman allowed Assumption to run 42 plays and roll up 218 yards before halftime, but the Knights had only 85 yards on 23 snaps in the second half. Assumption had four drives stall inside the 20-yard line against Alleman, and QND had three drives stall inside the 10-yard line in last week's 32-22 loss to Lexington, Mo. First-year coach Jack Cornell showed he's willing to trust young players on offense. Sophomore quarterback Ike Wiley completed 20 of 38 passes for 290 yards. Twelve of those completions went to freshmen and sophomores.
