Missouri prep roundup: Hannibal loses heartbreaker at Jefferson City

Damien French ran for 139 yards and scored three touchdowns, but a Jefferson City touchdown with three minutes left was enough to give the Jays a 30-27 victory over the Hannibal football team at Pete Adkins Stadium on Friday night in Jefferson City, Mo.

Hannibal (0-2) scored the lone touchdown in the first quarter on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Gabe Worthington to Will Whitaker.

Jefferson City's Devin Roberson ran for two 1-yard touchdowns in the second quarter before French answered with 43-yard and a 29-yard touchdown runs to give Hannibal a 21-15 lead.

Roberson threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Brooks that gave Jefferson City a 22-21 lead. Hannibal retook the lead when French scored from 6 yards out with 11 minutes to play. With three minutes left to play, Roberson threw a 24-yard touchdown to Levi Jobe and converted the two-point conversion on a QB keeper to give the Jays a 30-27 lead.

Monroe City 8, Brookfield 0: Keenan Batsell ran for 75 yards and the only touchdown of the game in a Clarence Cannon Conference game at Brookfield. Batsell scored from 1 yard out in the second quarter, and Gage Bottoms rushed in the two-point conversion. Monroe City (2-0) forced two turnovers. Brookfield suffered its second loss despite allowing just two touchdowns in two games.

Palmyra 39, Bowling Green 0: Jarom Alexander started the game with an 88-yard touchdown run and finished with 150 yards on the ground as the Panthers won easily on the road. Palmyra's Abe Haerr caught two touchdown passes, and the second one gave Palmyra a 27-0 lead in the third quarter.Jacob Kroeger and Brady Barnett each ran for 78 yards for the Panthers (2-0).

Milan 21, Mark Twain 0: Logan Perrigo ran for 94 yards on 10 carries, and Jace Barton ran for 91 yards on 23 carries, but the Tigers (1-1) couldn't find the end zone in a loss at Milan. Brayden McLeod had three receptions for 55 yards for the Tigers. Dominic Dabney scored on a 38-yard run and a 57-yard interception return for Milan.

Fayette 46, Scotland County 16: The Tigers trailed 16-8 at halftime, but Fayette scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to take command. The Falcons recovered two onside kicks to start the second half and scored on each drive. Will Fromm ran for 72 yards on 11 carries for Scotland County. Matthew Woods caught five passes for 137 yards.

South Shelby 44, Putnam County 20: Brock Wood ran for 205 yards on 26 carries with four touchdowns in Shelbina. The Cardinals (1-1) took a 22-0 lead midway through the second quarter off two touchdowns from Wood and a 9-yard touchdown run from Guy Timbrook. The Midgets cut the lead to 22-13 in the third quarter, but Wood scored on a 6-yard run and Daniel Burke followed with a 5-yard touchdown of his own to stretch the Cardinals' lead to 36-13. The Cardinals ran for 364 yards and forced six turnovers.

Macon 46, Highland 0: The Cougars were limited to minus-6 total yards in a Clarence Cannon Conference loss on the road. Braedyn Hetzler completed 7 of 14 passes for 19 yards.

Centralia 19, Clark County 8: Third-quarter touchdown runs by John Durant and Luke Hunter were the difference in the Indians' 19-8 Clarence Cannon Conference loss at Kahoka. Hunter's touchdown run with 2:58 left in the third quarter gave Centralia (1-1) a 13-point lead. A Centralia muffed punt gave the Indians two points on a safety, but the Panthers scored again in the fourth quarter. Kegan Davis ran for 60 yards, and London Brunk threw for 73 yards for Clark County (1-1), which had 335 yards of total offense.

Marceline 41, Knox County 6: Logan Miller ran for 29 yards and the lone touchdown for the Eagles in a Lewis and Clark Conference loss in Edina. Collen Brunner got Marceline on the board in the first quarter on a 3- yard run. Miller's 10-yard TD got Knox County within 7-6, but Marceline scored the game's next five touchdowns.
