Quincy University's seven-match win streak in women's tennis was snapped Saturday with a 7-2 loss to Bellarmine at home.
The loss is the Lady Hawks' first of the spring and its first in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
QU won one singles and one doubles match. Megan Marsot won at No. 5 singles, while Anele Novak and Jackie Ostermiller posted a win at No. 1 doubles.
QU lost the men's match to Bellarmine 8-1. The Hawks' only win came at No. 3 doubles where Rich Henschel and Matt Pellock defeated Paul Clark and Tyler Worley 8-4.
The Hawks, who had won three straight matches, is now 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC.
GIRLS SOCCER
QND 10, Macomb 0: The Lady Raiders scored six goals in the final 14 minutes, 27 seconds of the first half en route to their second straight shutout.
Nine different QND players scored goals. Kaleena Giesing scored her team's second and third goals 1:14 apart in the first half. Also scoring for the Lady Raiders were Hilary Obert, Jennifer Adam, Mercedee Esterlein, Erin Thomas, Janell Vermeire, Hannah Stroot, Amanda Keck and Katie Holm.
Esterlein, Thomas and Ali Shackleton had two assists apiece for QND (2-0-1), while Megan Rabe earned the shutout.
PREP BASEBALL
C-SE splits: Markus Vonholt made sure Central-Southeastern baseball coach Dave Swisegood left the A-C Central/Porta Tournament with at least one victory.
After losing to A-C Central/Virginia 6-5 in eight innings, Vonholt powered the Panthers to a 4-3 win over Porta in the night cap with a single swing.
Vonholt's second-inning grand slam helped C-SE teammate Patrick Flesner earn the victory. Flesner gave up five hits, struck out five, surrendered two earned runs and walked seven Porta batters.
Vonholt went 3 for 4 from the plate with a single, double, homer, 4 RBI, one run scored and a stolen base. The rest of the C-SE team had a pair of hits.
"He had a bang-up day today," said Swisegood, whose team is 4-4.
The victory gives Swisegood 890 career wins, three shy of breaking the IHSA all-time record.
QND 4-8, Jacksonville 2-3: The Raiders banged out 18 hits to sweep the doubleheader on the road.
QND snapped a 2-2 tie in the opener with a two-run seventh inning. Matt Welding led the Raiders at the plate by going 3 for 4, while Blaise Haxel struck out nine batters in six innings of work. Scott Cornwell pitched the seventh to earn the save.
QND (5-3) took a a 3-0 lead in the second and scored four more runs in the fifth. Brandon Miles homered for the Raiders, while Joe Wade doubled and tripled. Nathan Lunt went 2 for 3, while Welding pitched the first four innings for the win.
Jefferson City 4-6, Quincy 1-2: The Jays took advantage of two walks and three hit batters to break a 1-1 tie in the opener and sweep the doubleheader at the QHS field.
Quincy right-hander Nathan Moulton took the loss in the first game, allowing four runs and striking out four in five innings. Two of the four runners who scored reached after being hit by a pitch.
The Blue Devils scored their lone run in the second when Andrew Feyerabend doubled, went to third on Stuart Roderick's single and scored on Levi Lockett's sacrifice popout. Logan Wilson added a double as Quincy was held to just four hits.
In the nightcap, the Blue Devils managed just three hits -- a double by Lockett and singles by Kevin Wolf and Eric Foster. Zach Schnaufer suffered the loss, allowing four runs in four innings.
Pittsfield 9-8, Calhoun 6-2: The Saukees used two quick starts and one dominant pitching performance to sweep a home doubleheader.
In the first game, Pittsfield jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings and held on for the win despite a late charge by the Warriors.
Garrett Howland went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple, Clint Hamilton went 2 for 3 with a double and Henry Johnson improved to 3-0 on the mound.
The Saukees also struck quickly in the nightcap thanks to a 3-run homer by Bryce Frieden in the first inning. Pittsfield (6-1) led 6-0 after three innings.
Howland, who went 3 for 3 with a double at the plate, pitched a complete-game two-hitter to pick up his first win of the season.
Zach Ferguson went 2 for 4, Jordan Cawthon went 2 for 2 and Hamilton added his second double of the day.
Rushville-Industry 2, Griggsville-Perry 1: Lance Mountain hit a home run in the top of the third inning but the Tornadoes dropped a non-conference game on the road.
Griggsville had only one other hit in the game, a single by Steven Risley. Brian Baker gave up all three of the Rockets' runs in the fifth and struck out five batters.
Illini West 7, Johnsburg 2: The Chargers won their only game of the Galesburg Invitational.
Cole Thompson hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to put Illini West (4-2) up for good. Thompson went 2 for 2 in the game.
Luke Burling pitched five innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out five. Burling also doubled.
Hannibal 9, Marshall 3: Alan Ward's two-run single in the top of the the third inning helped the Pirates break the North Central Missouri Conference game open on the road.
Hannibal (2-1, 1-1) led 2-1 before scoring four in the third. Colin Krigbaum and Neil Hugenberg both doubled in the game for the Pirates, while Jay Mosley singled twice.
Ian Hatton struck out five to earn the win.
CCC Tournament: Palmyra won a pair of games -- a 9-6 victory over Louisiana and a 15-3 win against Monroe City -- at Louisiana.
Palmyra stole a school-record 16 bases against Louisiana, including six by Jason Cox. Cox and Dakota Damron had two his apiece, while Jeremy Hultz struck out four batters in two innings of relief.
Cox added three more hits and stole three more bases, while Scott Bross went 2 for 2 against Monroe City. Austin Hinkle doubled home two runs for Palmyra.
Earlier, Kyle Kennison went 3 for 4 with a double to lead Monroe City to a 4-3 victoy over Highland. The Cougars then beat Louisiana 6-2 as Jay Williams recorded 11 strikeouts.
PREP TRACK AND FIELD
QHS runner places: Chris Clarkson placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in the Class AA division of the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Classic at the Shirk Center in Bloomington.
Clarkson, a junior, ran a time of 51.49 seconds.
PREP TENNIS
Edwardsville Invitational: Two QHS doubles teams won consolation championships as the Blue Devils placed 13th in the 32-team field.
QHS's No. 1 doubles team of Francisco Cortez and Isaac Fee won three matches to win a consolation title.
Cortez and Fee defeated Brad Melke and Josh Crane of O'Fallon 6-1, 6-0, Kory Fraser and Steven Corey of Belleville Althoff 6-2, 6-2 and Rusty Peters and Nick Fleming of O'Fallon 6-4, 6-4.
QHS's Alex Miklius and Avery Bellis also won a consolation title at No. 3 doubles.
Miklius and Bellis beat Alan Hauser and Frank Beverly of Urbana 6-2, 6-0, Brandon Bolt and Chris Hoogland of Springfield 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 and Chris Goldtree and Bruce Handy of Althoff 7-5, 6-0.
Matt Bier, QHS's No. 1 singles player, won twice on Saturday to finish 2-2 on the weekend, while the No. 2 doubles team of Gavin Reed and Graham MacDonald also won twice to finish 2-2. Robbie Hernandez lost both of his matches at No. 2 singles.
QND 8, Hannibal 1: The Raiders raised their record to 4-0 with a win over the Pirates on the road.
Winning singles matches for QND were Michael Bergstrom, Scott Niemann, Shane Terwelp, Karl Duesterhaus and Sam Wilson. Hannibal's win came at No. 5 where Daniel Duelette beat Kevin Alte 10-3.
QND's doubles victories were recorded by Bergstrom-Niemann, Terwelp-Duesterhaus and Alte-Wilson.
WOMEN'S GOLF
QU places fourth: The Lady Hawks shot a 390, 11 strokes better than the day before, to finish with a 791 in the Truman State Bulldog Classic.
Stephanie Follin led QU by placing 20th individually with a 193. Allison Oakley was 21st with a 194, while Erin Lathrop and Tara Austin tied for 25th with a 203.
Minnesota-Mankato won the title with a 690.
PREP GOLF
Keokuk Invitational: Joe Spurgeon shot an 84 to lead Scotland County to a sixth-place finish in the six-team tournament with a 414.
Louisa-Muscatine won the tournament with a 334.
COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD
Missouri Relays: Tyler Buckman of Culver-Stockton placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in the open division at Columbia, Mo. Buckman ran a time of 50.88 seconds.
