ROCK ISLAND -- The Quincy High School girls soccer team followed Katie Runyon's lead Saturday and it turned into another big effort for both.

Runyon scored three times as the Blue Devils rolled to a dominating 6-0 Western Big 6 Conference victory over Rock Island at Public Schools Stadium.

Quincy (6-0, 2-0 WB6) put the heat on Rock Island (1-3, 0-1) early, with a goal by Lydia Disseler in the fourth minute, and another by Runyon in the eighth minute.

"I'm happy to see us get six goals," QHS coach Bill Sanders said. "We've talked about playing at a high pace and a high level. We are only six games in, so we're going to take every game and use it as a practice for the next game."

Runyon had an assist on her team's first goal, and followed that up with three straight goals to get the hat trick. She hit the post twice in the second half, showing the aggressiveness that has helped the Blue Devils outscore WB6 foes 12-0.

"That's what we want to see Katie do," Sanders said. "We want to be able to finish every opportunity that we can get, and she did that on three different occasions."

Quincy had four girls score, with Disseler, Kelsey Ruths and Hayley Womack adding to Runyan's three goals. The Blue Devils moved the ball extremely efficiently in the complete team effort.

"It's always tough when you have to play Quincy," first-year Rock Island coach Conan Dalton said. "We were down four starters (for various non-injury reasons), but we aren't going to make any excuses. They are a well-coached team that moves the ball really well."

Quincy dominated ball possession, and outshot Rock Island 15-1. The Blue Devils also had five corner kicks to the Lady Rocks' none.

"It's tough, we lost seven starters from last year, and we have a lot of new girls on the team," Dalton said of his young club. "We aren't aggressive enough right now. We do work hard, though."

Rock Island couldn't find a way to get any offense going after Quincy's two quick goals, and trailed 3-0 at halftime.
