Saukees win in seventh inning, improve to 7-1

Kiley Howland drove in the game-winning run with two outs in the top of the seventh as the Pittsfield softball team edged Pleasant Hill 10-9 in a Pike County Conference game.

That run was the third of the inning for the Saukees.

Sophomore Kaity Schultz (3-0) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the win. Schultz relieved starter Abby Forshey as the Saukees (7-1) improved to 3-1 in the PCC.

Pleasant Hill scored two unearned runs off Schultz in the bottom of the seventh. But the Lady Wolves' comeback came up short.

Besides earning the win, Schultz also went 2 for 4 at the plate with a pair of RBI.

Pittsfield led 6-0 after the top of the second inning. Jessie Waggoner and Molly Ward each had inside-the-park solo home runs in the inning.

Payson Seymour 3, Liberty 1: The Lady Indians scored all of their runs in the first inning of a Pike County Conference victory at home.

Dakota Flesner and Wendy Whelan both drove in runs and Flesner scored on an error. Liberty (5-6, 0-1) scored it run in the fourth when Lucy Cramsey doubled and was singled home by Amanda Bower.

Alese Speckhart had two hits and pitched a two-hitter for Payson (11-1, 3-0). Rachelle Barry allowed four hits and struck out five in the loss.

Beardstown 13, Brown County 3: The Lady Tigers scored seven runs in the first two innings to top the Lady Hornets at Beardstown (7-1) in six innings.

Brown County fell to 0-12 with the non-conference loss. Cassie Lipcaman (0-6) took the loss, striking out three and walking five batters. The Lady Hornets' fielders had six errors.

Lipcaman also led the team at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles.

PREP BASEBALL

Macomb 10, QND 0: Kendall Hocker kept the Raiders baffled, throwing a no-hitter in the Bombers' five-inning win at Macomb.

Davis Hendrickson started the Bombers' scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. Hendrickson also doubled and hit an RBI single later in the game.

Blaise Haxel started the game on the mound for QND (7-4) and was relieved by Tim Haley in the fourth.

PREP TRACK

C-SE girls win: Katelyn Moore set a new school record in the long jump to help the Lady Panthers win the Saukee Invitational in Pittsfield. C-SE scored 116 points, while Pittsfield scored 94.

Moore leaped 18 feet, 5 inches in the long jump, won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and anchored the winning 800 relay, which also included Amanda Bauer, Caitlin Heiman and MacKenzie Wright. Kendra Jennings won the high jump and the triple jump.

C-SE's boys won four events to place second. Brayden Sherrick won the discus and the shot put, while Alex Rhea won the triple jump. Tim Jefferson, Jake Rockhold Eli Hibbert and Rhea won the 3,200 relay.
