Ellefritz throws no-hitter, strikes out 15

Kaci Ellefritz pitched a no-hitter to lead the Illini West softball team to an 8-0 victory over Unity at Mendon on Tuesday.

Ellefritz struck out 15 batters and walked only three. She was helped by doubles from Christina Bostrum, Randi Gronewold, Lashay Rodeffer and Alyssa Swanson.

QHS 3, Payson Seymour 0: Mackenzi Fairley tossed a two-hit shutout for the Blue Devils as she struck out 15 batters and wallked only one.

Fairley didn't allow a hit until the third inning en route to her fourth win of the season and scored the games first run as she doubled in the third inning, stole a base, and scored on a passed ball.

Stephanie Schwartz went 3 for 3 with three stolen bases for QHS (5-5), which scored all three runs on passed balls.

Griggsville-Perry 12, Pleasant Hill 1: The visiting Tornadoes scored five runs in the fifth inning and six more in the seventh to put away the Wolves in a Pike County Conference game.

Aja Hurst had three hits, including a double and a triple, to lead Griggsville-Perry (7-5).

GIRLS SOCCER

QHS 7, Hannibal 1: Katie Runyon had four goals and an assist to lead the Blue Devils to a road win. Haley Womack had two goal and two assists, while Katie Cannady also scored for Quincy (8-1-1).

Jordan Campbell's goal in the 21st minute was the only tally by the Lady Pirates (4-7).

PREP TRACK

Unity Invitational: The Central-Southeastern boys and the Liberty-Payson girls won the team titles at Unity.

Liberty scored 90 points to beat Illini West (86) and Palmyra (82). Kelsey Martin helped the Eagles with two individual victories, in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.84 seconds and the 300 hurdles (52.37). Lucy Cramsey won the 800 in 2:44.09.

Double-event winners were Alyssa Duffy of Unity, who won the shot put in 35 feet, 41/4 inches and the discus (115-7), and Macy Black of Pleasant Hill, who won the 400 (1:03.34) and the 200 (27.71).

C-SE won seven events to win the boys side with 133 points, while Palmyra was second with 127 and Pittsfield was third with 67.

Brayden Sherrick won two events to lead C-SE -- the discus (158-6) and the shot put (46-9), while Zach Wood won the high jump (6-2) and Jacob Rockhold won the 400 (56.28). The Panthers also won three relays -- the 3,200 (9:13.68), the 800 (1:44.09) and the 1,600 (3:47.84).

Brandon Leffler led Palmyra with three victories in the 3,200 (10:35.37), the 1,600 (5:06.81) and the 800 (2:14.06). Teammate Jonathon Nutt won the long jump (19-8 1/2) and the triple jump (40-2).

PREP GOLF

Moberly Invitational: Hannibal placed 11th out of 16 teams by shooting a 365.

Josh Cookson led the Pirates with an 85 and was followed by teammates Michael White (86), Corey Bryant (95), Chase Clayton (99) and Aaron Quinn (107).

Southern Boone won the tournament with a 328, three strokes better than second-place Fulton, which was led by Jason Vann, who took medalist honors in a playoff after shooting a 3-over-par 73.

BOYS TENNIS

QHS 9, Chatham Glenwood 0: Isaac Fee started the Blue Devils domination with a tie-breaker match at No. 1 singles as he defeated Charlie Clausner 4-6, 6-2 (15-13).

Other QHS (6-2) singles winners were Matt Bier, Fran Cortez, Gavin Reed, Billy Birsic and Garrett Garner. The duo of Cortez-Fee won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles for the Blue Devils, who swept all three doubles matches.

Other doubles winners for QHS were Birsic-Reed and Bier-Graham McDonald. The Blue Devils will be at the 16-team Belleville Invite on Friday and Saturday.

COLLEGE GOLF

GLVC Tournament: Quincy University shot its third straight team score of 320 or higher as the Hawks finished last in the 13-team field at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. QU closed play Tuesday with a 327 for a 976 total, 95 shots behind league champion Indianapolis.

Clint Sutter shot a 79 to finish the 54-hole event with a 21-over 237 total, tying him for 41st place to lead QU's five-player team.
