Knox County escape with win in eighth inning

The Knox County baseball team used a late run to edge Atlanta 6-5 on Wednesday in a non-conference game at home.

Zach Parrish led off the eighth inning by reaching on an error. He was singled to third by Daniel McMahon and scored on Cody Morgenstern's sacrifice fly.

Knox County (12-2) tied the score 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh when Parker Dixson singled and advaned to second on a wild pitch. Two outs later, Dixson scored on Brett Bryant's double.

Pittsfield 8, Triopia 6: Brian Bristow went 3 for 3 and hit two doubles to lead the Saukees to a non-conference victory at home.

Both of Bristow's doubles were key hits. His double in the third scored Jordan Cawthon for a 7-1 lead. After the Trojans had cut the lead to 7-4, Bristow doubled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on Michael Johnson's single.

Trevor Miller also doubled and went 2 for 3. Henry Johnson pitched the first five innings to raise his record to 9-1 and Garrett Howland finished up for the save.

Payson Seymour 7, Western 4: Tyler Bryant's RBI double in the bottom of the fourth put the Indians ahead to stay in a five-inning game called because of rain at Payson.

Western trailed 3-1 when Renn Schafer tied the score with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth, followed by Garrett Robbins run-scoring double. Payson (8-9) tied the score 4-4 on a solo home run by Shane Welman, followed by Bryant's double.

Bryant and Adam Hilgenbrinck both went 3 for 3, while Hilgenbrinck pitched the fifth inning for the victory.

Rushville-Industry 15, Central-Southeastern 5: The Rockets rallied from a 4-2 deficit after the second inning to win the six-inning game at Augusta.

The Panthers (10-13) had only three hits in the bottom of the second, but scored three runs with the help of two bases-loaded walks and a hit batsman. Phillip Rousseau and Brent Kassing had two hits apiece for CSE, while Derrick Hull took the loss.

PREP SOFTBALL

Pittsfield 8, Triopia 6: Abby Stinson went 3 for 4 and hit a two-run double to lead the Saukees to a non-conference win at home.

Triopia led 5-3 before Pittsfield (21-6) scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-5 lead. Traci Childers and Casey Noble helped the Saukees with two hits apiece.

Abby Forshey scattered five hits to raise her record to 11-2.
