    Illinois Cuba Working Group hopes to advance trade relation

    The Illinois Cuba Working Group delegation met last month with Cuban commodity buyer Alimport, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of External Relations, the Cuba Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the Mariel Special Development Zone with a goal of increasing trade relations and conducting business that would increase exports of agricultural products and food from Illinois to Cuba.

    This past growing season was a good one for most gardeners. Crop farmers harvested one of the best corn crops on record, and vegetables responded positively to the great growing conditions as well. This year, we had moisture throughout the summer, and July was one of the coolest on record, which undoubtedly led to the bounty.
