WEST POINT, ILL. — An accident involving two farm tractors claimed the life of a man Wednesday.

Basco resident John J. Jacobs, 80, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 10 a.m. accident, Hancock County Sheriff's Department deputies said.

Deputies said a tractor driven by Gary Jacobs, 63, of West Point, and another tractor driven by John Jacobs were towing a field cultivator on County Road 1150 East. The cultivator had lost a tire, and John Jacobs' tractor had its bucket loader tied to the cultivator.

When the other tire also came off the cultivator, deputies said Gary Jacobs pulled over to the ditch, and the tractor behind him also pulled over, then rolled down the steep bank when pulled by the cultivator.

The tractor overturned and pinned John Jacobs underneath it, deputies said. He was pronounced dead at 11:40 a.m.

Deputies said the incident is still being investigated.
