AUGUSTA, Ill. -- It sounds odd to hear Southeastern volleyball coach Tim Kerr suggest middle hitter Kolby McClelland might be a better defensive player in college, especially when you consider the career offensive numbers she accumulated.
AUGUSTA, Ill. -- Kolby McClelland doesn't want anyone to mistake her laughter for embarrassment. "That's not the case at all," she said. "But you can't help but laugh at Coach Kerr for some of the things he does."

BUSHNELL, Ill. -- Kolby McClelland's eyes were still red from the tears of her career with the Southeastern volleyball team coming to an end as she reflected on the last four seasons.
"These years have meant a lot to me," the senior middle blocker said. "I couldn't have asked to play for a better coach or a better program. I'm really proud of the accomplishments we had."
Southeastern, however, came two victories shy of the ultimate feat of reaching the state tournament after falling to West Prairie 25-22, 25-12 in the Class 1A Bushnell-Prairie City Sectional championship Thursday night.
McClelland made her presence known in the Lady Suns' offense by recording five kills as Southeastern (34-5) jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first set. She had just four kills the rest of the way as the Cyclones (31-5-1) used their blocking and a powerful offense to advance to Saturday's Peoria Heights Super-sectional.

BEARDSTOWN, Ill. -- The score in the third set was tied at 22-22, and McKenzie Foley thought victory was still for the taking for the Quincy Notre Dame volleyball team. "I was still hopeful," she said. She didn't know the recent history of Riverton. The te
BUSHNELL, Ill. -- The Southeastern volleyball team was aware of its recent history in the sectional tournament.
It took less than an hour to rewrite that.
Southeastern never trailed as it quickly dispatched Lexington 25-7, 25-13 victory in the Class 1A Bushnell-Prairie City Sectional semifinal Tuesday evening. The Lady Suns have won more than 30 games in each of the last two seasons only to lose in the sectional semifinals.
"We finally got past this curse," senior middle blocker Kolby McClelland said. "That was our main goal was to get past this first game because we lost it the last two years. We really did call it that because we really wanted to win."
Southeastern (34-4) will play for its first sectional championship since 2001, when it finished fourth in Class 1A. It will battle West Prairie (30-5-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Cyclones defeated the Lady Suns in three sets on Oct. 5.
