    Their derby names are marvelous, their athletic abilities impressive and their concern for the community inspirational. It's been a wild and crazy five-year journey for the Dark River Derby Coalition, Quincy's nationally ranked women's roller derby team. It has evolved from little more than a curiosity in 2011 to a highly popular organization that is as well known off the track for its charitable heart as it is on the track for its well-placed elbows and jet-like jammers.

    A $650,000 federal grant announced Friday by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin will establish clinic and satellite clinics in Quincy to help poor, elderly and underserved people. Preferred Family Healthcare will be the provider. PFH President Mike Schwend hopes to have a clinic open in 90 to 120 days at the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center, 639 York. He expects it will be staffed by 7 to 10 people in the first year and could grow to three times that size over time.
