I hate needles. I once had an MRI and hated the needle in the arm for the IV. Yes I do give blood but I am the one white faced staring at the ceiling. Please give blood and if you have to look at the ceiling with me.

I am very anemic amongst other things and cannot donate, however I DO donate my time to The American Red Cross and other organizations. I feel that many of these so called "non-profit" organizations have administration personnel that make wayyyyyyyyyy too much money and should NOT be out there telling/asking us to donate, when they should be donating a large percentage of thier unearned wages back to worthy causes!

Yeppers!

Agree with "Yeppers". Too high of a salary for most of these so called Administrators. Yes they deserve a fair salary, but my goodness folks come on! Bobby the Bedwetter

I had donated gallons of blood but stopped when Red Cross showed no concern for value of my time, even though I had made appointments.

Is the Red Cross the only organization to which you can donate blood?

: 11/3/2009

No, but that depends on where you live. Different areas of the country have other blood banks that collect blood.

I am amazed at many people donate blood and time. Thanks to then most money donated goes to where it should. Yes I know you need people to run these organizations but at what cost. The President of the United States is the most underpaid CEO.

I donate because I know first hand how important it is...My Father had 13 transfussions years ago and I feel It's payback... Then too...the cookies and little Debbies don't hurt :)

I used to donate regularly, then stopped. I made appointments as they request, but you still were made to wait 30-45 minutes. Believe it or not people have jobs and other obligations and cannot wait so long. That is the purpose of an appointment!! Geezer Charlie

I used to donate regularly, but now have medical condition that prevents me.

I donate monthly at local phersis drive and I do it in memory of my mother who died of cancer. I know that her infusion of the white cells from an anonymous donor gave her a zip of energy her last days and donating blood/needles don't bother me and I know it does help someone. I too don't like all the adminstration that goes into these organizations and think that a lot of the regular changes in the blood program is away to give someone a paycheck and does not improve the donor programs. I too encourage others to donate....if you can donate you should give this gift.

The Red Cross is a great organization for many reason other than the donor program. I salute the many volunteers that regularly participate and organize events. They are the true hero's of the American Red Cross.

Thank you Thank you Thank you to Sandy Little for being a pheresis donor. Everyone's donations are greatly appreciated & do save lives. We can go through a dozen platelet pheresis a day or more if it's a busy heart surgery day; not to mention red blood cells & fresh frozen plasma.

There are a lot of votes for people who have never donated blood. It is a very worthwhile cause and doesn't take long at all. I have donated several times myself. I remember being told a few years ago that donating one's own blood for the Red Cross is very good for your own health. He was a blood donor too so he might have been told that by one of the nurses.
