QU volleyball team ends losing skid

The Quincy University men's volleyball team snapped its five-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Medaille College in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night.
QU (17-21) opened the day with a 30-22, 33-30, 30-18, 30-28 loss to Nazareth College. The Hawks rebounded with a 22-30, 30-36, 30-28, 30-25 victory over Medaille.
Robbie Coughlin had 15 kills to lead the Quincy attack. Dan Dresen had 37 assists while Tanner Wright added nine digs.
The Hawks are now 1-4 on their seven-match spring break trip. They'll play a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match tonight and Thursday at Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa.
PREP SOFTBALL
West Central 5, Brown County 1: The Lady Hornets committed four of their six errors in the seventh inning as the Lady Cougars scored three runs in the final frame at Mount Sterling. Cassie Lipcaman, Carol Dunlap and Danielle Dunn each had singles for Brown County (0-6).
Pleasant Hill 11, Brussels 6: The Lady Wolves collected 10 runs combined in the third and fourth innings in a Pike County Conference win at Brussels.
Pleasant Hill earned nine of their 11 hits in those two innings.
PREP GOLF
Palmyra d. Monroe City: Palmyra won its opening match of the season by beating Monroe City 173-195 at Mosswood Meadows Country Club.
Jon Bradney earned medalist honors for Palmyra, shooting 41. Taylor Schubert (43), Nate Morris (44) and Mackenzie Browning (45) finished off the victory for the Panthers.
For Monroe City, Austin O'Bryan (44) shot the low score, followed by Jordan Botkins (48), Chanson Burns (49) and Brantley Nowlin (54).
Scotland County second at LaPlata: Kasey Dral's 50 was the low score of the day for Scotland County, which finished second in a triangular meet in LaPlata.
Michael Moore and Trevor Harris each shot 59, while Kelly Lister added 62 for Scotland.
