Linn State president to speak at Culver commencement
CANTON, Mo. -- About 190 Culver-Stockton College students will receive bachelor's degrees Saturday, May 10. The 152nd annual commencement will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Charles Field House.
Donald M. Claycomb, president of Linn State Technical College, Linn, Mo., will be the commencement speaker.
Claycomb has been president of Linn State for 15 years, taking over when it was known as Linn Technical College. Under his leadership, the school has undergone major changes.
Claycomb and Donald K. Gnuse of Quincy, Ill., chairman of the C-SC Board, will receive honorary doctorate degrees. Gnuse graduated from C-SC in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in business and economics and earned a diploma from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Gnuse joined the C-SC Board in 1984. He is a retired president of First Bankers Trust and is active in a number of business, civic and religious organizations. He also is on the board of Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing.
Michael Zehnle, a graduating senior math major, has been selected to speak on behalf of the class of 2008. Zehnle is a son of Mary Howald of Center and Robert Zehnle of Quincy, Ill.
During commencement, faculty members selected to receive the Reuling Prize and the Helsabeck Prize for Teaching Excellence will be announced.
Seniors will be honored at other activities during the week. Pins will be presented to graduates of the nursing program, at 2 p.m. Friday in Madison Park Christian Church, Quincy.
The baccalaureate is at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Alexander Campbell Auditorium.
Robert Paige, who is retiring from his position as C-SC professor of communication, will give the class challenge. Pastor Randy Shannon of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marshall, Mo., will read Scripture.
