Walt and Joy Swearingen of Carthage have announced the engagement of their daughter, Megan Joy of Peoria, to Jared Clark Jahraus of Fairbury. He is a son of Dale and Janet Jahraus of St. Peter.

The bride-elect is a 1998 graduate of Carthage High School and earned a bachelor's degree in kineseology from the University of Illinois. She is interning at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, and will complete a doctor of physical therapy degree from Bradley University in May.

The prospective bridegroom graduated from South Central High School in Farina in 1993 and earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture education from the University of Illinois. He teaches science at Prairie Central High School in Fairbury.

A June 21 wedding is planned at the 1850s Guest House near Dallas City.
