OPEN HOUSE OF HISTORIC PROPERTIES

The following locations in Quincy and Adams County will host visitors Saturday as part of the "Open House of Historic Properties" in conjunction with Preservation Month:

n All Wars Museum at the Illinois Veterans Home, 1707 N. 12th, featuring more than 7,000 artifacts from the Revolutionary War to modern-day conflicts, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Free admission but donations accepted.

n Antique Auto Museum in All America Park, featuring more than 30 antique cars and trucks, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission waived. Donations accepted.

n The Dr. Richard Eells House, a documented Underground Railroad site, 415 Jersey, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission waived. Donations accepted.

n The Gardner Museum of Architecture and Design, with outdoor memorial sculpture garden at 332 Maine and gallery at 129 S. Fourth featuring barns and farms exhibit, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission $2.

n Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County, 425 S. 12th. The Gov. John Wood Mansion and the Parsonage Museum open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission $3 to tour one building, $5 for both.

n Log Cabin Village on Quinsippi Island, 1 to 4 p.m. Free.

n Indian Mounds Park, site of Native American burial mounds, 1400 S. Fifth, open sunrise to sunset. Brochures for self-guided tours available near the bathhouse entrance to Indian Mounds Pool. Free.

n Quincy Art Center, featuring gallery housed in former Lorenzo Bull carriage house, 1515 Jersey, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission waived.

n Quincy Public Library, 526 Jersey, is offering Preservation Month exhibits, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free.

n Quincy Museum, 16th and Maine, featuring exhibits on local history, dinosaurs, Native Americans, Mississippi River wildlife and farming, 1 to 5 p.m. Admission $3 for adults, $2 for children 5 and above.

n Villa Kathrine, a Mediterranean-style castle serving as Quincy's tourist information center at 532 Gardner Expressway, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A volunteer portraying George Metz, original owner of the circa-1900 building, will greet visitors in the afternoon. Admission waived.

n South Side German Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places, featuring most of the Calftown neighborhood. Self-guided tour brochures available at Quincy Museum, Villa Kathrine and some other locations.

n Washington Theater, a former Vaudeville theater awaiting restoration at 425 Hampshire, 1 to 4 p.m. Donations accepted.

n Woodland Cemetery at 1020 S. Fifth, one of Quincy's oldest and most scenic burial grounds, is open from sunrise to sunset. Judy Crocker of the Friends of Woodland Cemetery will conduct guided tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Participants should meet at the main entrance. Free.

n One-room schoolhouse restored by the Adams County Retired Teachers' Association on Ill. 336 near the Adams County Fairgrounds, Mendon, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations accepted.

n Agriculture Museum at 1445 Boy Scout Road, featuring antique tractors and farm equipment from the 1930s, 7 to 8 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Free.

n Prairie Mills Windmill in Golden, built by German immigrants in 1872, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission $3 for adults.

n Ursa Town Hall, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., hosted by North Adams Historical Society. Free.

n Lewis Round Barn on Adams County Olde Tyme Association's property along Ill. 336 near the Adams County Fairgrounds, Mendon, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flea market will be available. Free.
