Student artists earn awards
The award winners for the Cyndi Taylor Painters' Exhibit held at John Wood Community College in March have been announced.
Thirty-one students of award-winning artist Cyndi Taylor participated in the show, held in the Heath Center Gallery on the JWCC campus in Quincy.
Awards were presented as follows:
* Best of Show: Daryl Shankland, Quincy, "Smokey Mountains."
* Animals: First place -- Alesa Spangler, Quincy, "Cosmo"; second -- Ramona Durham, Nelson, Mo., "King Cat"; third -- Joe Lord, Plainville, "Daybreak."
* Landscapes: First place -- Jody Snow, Barry, "Pohutakana Tree"; second -- Donna Rodemich, Quincy, "Seaside Serenity"; third -- Pat NolinWinkler, Quincy, "Crimson Autumn."
* Floral/Still Life: First place -- Ross Castle, Montgomery City, Mo., "It's Just a Boat"; second -- Donna Rodemich, Quincy, "Captured Memories"; third -- Bill Mullen, Hannibal, Mo., "Passage."
* Traditional Portrait: First place -- Ross Castle, Montgomery City, Mo., "JFK"; second -- Shirley Crank, Quincy, "Grandmother"; third -- Rachel Allison, Hannibal, Mo., "Legolas."
* A Moment in Time: First place -- Jody Snow, Barry, "Young Buddhist Monk"; second -- Daryl Shankland, Quincy, "Sadness"; third -- Lisa Moran-Cortes, Quincy, "Jerry Garcia."
Several special awards were presented by area business sponsors, and a number of honorable mention awards were also presented.
