John Potts rejoined The Herald-Whig copy desk in September 2016; it marks his fourth tenure with the newspaper. He started his career as a part-time sports writer in 1973 and eventually worked as city desk assistant, sports writer, wire editor, Page 1 editor and as a member of the copy editing and design team. Potts also worked one year (1979) at the Tulsa World as a sports writer and spent three years (2003-2006) as the director of public relations at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. He also spent one year working for the Quincy Public Schools. Potts is a 1975 graduate of Quincy High School and a 1979 graduate of Quincy College, where he was the recipient of the Thomas A. Oakley I and II Scholarship. He also a member of the Quincy High School Sports Hall of Fame for his work in compiling a statistical record of the Blue Devils historic basketball program. Potts lives in Quincy with his wife, Kelly, and son, Troy.
